THANKSGIVING IN A BOX

Roughly 150 baskets were created by the Watertown Park & Recreation and Social Services Departments, to provide local families in need with all the trimmings for a classic Thanksgiving Dinner. While these baskets were pre-ordered, there will be additional dinner and care packages created for families who did not register in advance. Many local organizations and businesses donated food items for this annual program, including Premier Subaru, who donated 100 turkeys; The Watertown Meat Center, which donated about 50 turkeys; items and baskets from Swift Middle School and local Girl Scouts groups, etc. Recreation Director Lisa Carew said that while the town always receives a decent amount of donations from individuals and businesses, this year the public showed an "outpouring of support." New Opportunities, Inc. Meals on Wheels Partners with Premier Subaru to"Share the Love" this Holiday Season
               Subaru's
"Share the Love" event helps deliver nutritious meals and compassion to Greater
Waterbury seniors
"We provide meals to many seniors who have no family support and are often alone during the holidays."Â "Last year this event with the help of the public, was able to provide about 60 seniors with a small holiday gift," said Program Director Lisa LaBonte.Â
The public is asked to bring a small unwrapped gift to  Premier Subaru Watertown located on 795 Straits Turnpike in Watertown between November 25th- December 16th. Some suggestions include gloves, socks, blanket throws, postage stamps, pharmacy gift cards, sweatshirts and slippers. The items will be picked up after December 16th, wrapped and distributed to our most needy clients.
 As a proud Subaru "Share the Love" event charitable partner, New Opportunities, Inc.'s partnership with  Premier Subaru makes Meals on Wheels eligible to earn grants of up to $35,000. This can provide an extra layer of support to help New Opportunities, Inc. which currently has a waiting list for Meals on Wheels services.

The Subaru "Share the Love" event runs from November 21, 2013 to January 2, 2014. Subaru is donating $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during "Share the Love" to the customer's choice of charity, including Meals On Wheels. Over the past six years, proceeds from the Subaru "Share the Love" event have provided funds to support the Meals On Wheels vision to end senior hunger.Â

Premier was contacted with a plea for help after a previously committed sponsor backed out. This created a desperate situation solved by Premier.Â
